Today I’m here,
once again with you to talk about something that you probably won’t
see quite often, because it is an older game, I’m talking about
Metro 2033 Redux, the remastered version that came out in 2014 after
the original one that was published in 2010, I never actually played
Metro 2033 but for what I saw on internet it looks like that the two
games are not that different, but don’t quote me on that because
I’m not that informed.
Also if it is a 2014
game it is a bit “meh” that is because 2014 in general was not a
year that good for videogames, as a matter of fact that year came out
games as Titanfall and Advanced Warfare that were to my eyes really
ugly games particularly the second one.
For the ones of you
who don’t know what Metro 2033 Redux looks like check out the link
that I leave you below, and take a look to the Metro 2033 playlist
that I’m creating.
However,
here are some of the things that I really don’t like:
-The
Hud is a complete mess, that is because there is no actual Hud, the
user is not able to use an interface like some kind of inventary, and
I actually still don’t know how to cycle between different knids of
granade that I have, you don’t know were objects are unless you
check every single body on the ground (after a while you get used to
that and you understand that generally there is nothing in the
monsters) Ranger mod is something that doesn’t make much sense to
me because you have no indication whatsoever, not even the little
white hand that pops out everytime you find an object (the hand comes
handy because there is also the control that you are supposed
to use in order to interact with the object)
So you have to guess
everytime what key you have to press and it is in general quite a
mess, but I can see what they were trying to do, they wanted to give
the player a simulation-like experience, but I personally don’t
like it because it is required too much effort to do even the most
simple thing.
As
an example I started in ranger mode but I actually couldn’t get
thruogh the start of the game because I didn’t know which was the
control that I needed to use to pick up a weapon, I needed to hold
E; not even simple because it is not one of the first things that
I would try to do.
You
can’t even change game difficulty, you are stuck with the one that
you choose when the game starts and I don’t think this was a smart
move because if for somebody the game was too difficult or if he
decided to have a more complete (also if still inadequate) Hud he
would have to start the whole game from the beginning.
But
it is not that bad this game because its plot comes from the
incredible serie of books by Dmirty Glukhovsky (sorry if I mispelled
the name), and I have to say that the game is pretty thrilling (also
if here and there are some minor inconsistencies). The game begins in
medias res our carachter is fighting on the surface of the
postapocalyptic Earth with some monsters and he (probably, just
speculating) dies in combat. We have to guide, during the real quest,
our carachter Artyom through the underground of Moscow, that has
become the only place somewhat safe for what remains of humanity and
that is still divided in groups that fight each other because of
ideals.
I
really like also the fact that you are given the choice to finish a
level by being more stealthy or more
shot-whatever-stands-in-front-of-you, so that the game can fit better
the player’s style (like Disonhored, and others, approach)
Here
lies another thing that I don’t personally like quite much, the
game is divided in levels and that is not good, because it feels like
COD without the online content so once you finished the game you can
either replay it or just begin another game because I don’t think
that the game will give you the opportunity, once finished, to wander
in the galleries of the Underground (also if this would be a cool
idea).
Last
but not least repleyability.
I
don’t think that I would play once again the game (apart from the
fact that I already know the story) because I don’t like it that
much, the structure as a whole is too rigid and doesn’t let the
player to decide that much, apart from which way you want to behave
in certain situations; I would consider replaying it if there could
be some kind of true and important difference between my first
experience but I don’t think that this is something that Metro 2033
Redux is going to allow.
In
conclusion I don’t recommend this game, from where I’m now.
I
hope you enjoyed it
